AI video models 2026: what world models mean for ad production

Google DeepMind's Genie 4 generates worlds with real-time audio, but it is a research preview. What it means for ad production, and what stays the same.

Within a few weeks, someone in a meeting will tell you that "AI now generates whole worlds in real time" and ask why your next ad isn't made that way. Better to be ready. Among the AI video models 2026 has produced, the one drawing the most attention this week is Genie 4 from Google DeepMind. It is an important signal. It is not yet a production tool.

Our view is simple: world models will change how an ad is prepared before they change how it is delivered. Here is why.

Genie 4 generates a world to explore, not an ad to deliver

A standard video model produces a clip: you describe, it returns footage. A world model does something different. It simulates an environment that responds to commands, frame by frame.

On 27 October 2026, Google DeepMind introduced Genie 4 as a research preview. The system generates interactive environments and lets users type a new prompt mid-simulation to change the scene. The headline feature is audio: music, ambient noise and dialogue are produced in real time alongside the images. Compared with Genie 3, scene consistency reaches two minutes, twice as long.

For advertising, the point is control. Changing weather, camera or characters while the scene "runs" is a different way to think about a shot. But it is a way to explore, not to lock a client-approved sequence.

It is a research preview, and we say so plainly

Today Genie 4 cannot be bought or freely used. Google has made it available to selected testers. In the coming weeks it is due to reach Google AI Ultra subscribers in Project Genie, plus early access partners of the Gemini API and Google AI Studio. The same report lists the limits the team acknowledges: details and objects can drift as a simulation runs, audio accuracy is not guaranteed, and in-world text may be illegible.

For an ad, those limits matter. A product that changes shape after ninety seconds, an unreadable logo or imprecise audio will not pass a brand review. So we do not put Genie 4 in a quote. We follow it, we will test it when it is accessible, and we will tell you what holds up and what does not.

The value for an ad is in previsualisation

One thing is already clear: where these models can help first. Google's testers have pointed to film prototyping as a possible use. A DeepMind engineer said real-time capability helps keep the creative flow going during ideation and storyboarding.

A concrete example, for illustration. The brief is a car ad on a coastal road. In a previsualisation session you can try the same scene in fog, in low sun, with a low camera or from above. None of it is final footage, but each version helps the client decide earlier. You reach production with fewer open questions and a sharper idea of what to ask from the generation models and the edit.

The consequence for brands and agencies: development becomes more visual. Briefs can be discussed by looking at a scene, not only by reading a moodboard.

How we work while world models mature

On AI Video Production projects we always start from the brief and the storyboard, then choose the right model for each shot, because no single model covers them all. Every shot goes through internal review for product consistency, faces, logo and audio before it reaches the client. When a world model becomes usable, we will add it where it makes sense, in previsualisation, and only after checking it on real material. For a comparison of the models already available, read our guide to the best AI video models of 2026.

What to ask a supplier who mentions world models

News is judged with practical questions. Here are five:

  1. Which project phase does it cover? Previsualisation, final generation or both.
  2. How long does consistency last? A two-minute scene is not a thirty-second ad with an unchanged product.
  3. How are audio and in-scene text controlled? These are the points Google's team says are still open.
  4. Who approves, and when? Reviews must happen before delivery, not after.
  5. What is the plan if the tool is unavailable? A good supplier has a fallback route.

If you are building your own process, the path from brief to delivery is described in our guide to the AI-generated advertising spot.

What to do now

Do not change a production plan because of a research preview. Do update the brief: include a previsualisation phase and agree which scenes deserve to be explored before they are produced. To see how that could fit your next ad, find out how we work on AI Video Production.
